August in South Jersey is the stretch of summer where everything happens outside. Free concerts almost every night of the week, movies under the stars, food trucks in the park, and a Main Street sidewalk sale that's been running since the Johnson administration.

If you're new to the area — or thinking about moving here — this is the month to see what these towns are actually like. Here's what's happening across Camden and Burlington County, organized by county and sorted by date.

Camden County

Pennsauken — Annual Fire Muster at Cooper River Park

📅 Sunday, August 2 | 10am–3pm

📍 Cooper River Park, North Park Drive & Airport Highway, Pennsauken

The Camden County Board of Commissioners and the Cradle of Liberty Antique Fire Apparatus Association bring antique fire trucks, drafting demonstrations, a firematic flea market, apparatus judging, and kids' activities to Cooper River Park. If you have a four-year-old who points at every fire engine on Route 70, this is your day.

Camden Waterfront — Sunset Jazz Series at Wiggins Park

📅 Mondays, August 3, 24 & 31 | 8pm

📍 Wiggins Park, 2 Riverside Drive, Camden

Free jazz on the waterfront, presented by Rutgers University–Camden. August 3 brings Minute By Minute, a tribute to the music of Michael McDonald. On August 24, drummer Will Calhoun celebrates the 100th anniversary of Miles Davis, and the series wraps its August run on the 31st with the Miguel Zenón Quartet — the alto saxophonist is a Grammy winner and a MacArthur Fellow.

Cherry Hill — National Night Out

📍 Cherry Hill High School East, 1750 Kresson Road

Cherry Hill's National Night Out is one of the biggest in the region. Expect police and fire demonstrations, music, community organizations, games, prizes, and food available for purchase. Free to attend, and one of the easiest ways to meet people if you've just moved into town.

Collingswood — Movies in Knight Park

📅 Thursdays, August 6, 13 & 20 | at dusk

📍 Knight Park, near the gazebo at Browning Road & Collings Avenue

Free films under the stars in Collingswood's 70-acre backyard. The August lineup is Little Giants (Aug 6), National Treasure (Aug 13), and Back to the Future (Aug 20). BYOC — bring your own chair. Movies are cancelled in the event of rain.

Lindenwold — No Surrender: Springsteen Tribute

📅 Friday, August 7 | 7pm

📍 Lindenwold Park

The last of Lindenwold's three summer concerts, and a fitting closer. Free, outdoor, and part of the Camden County Summer Concert Series.

Haddonfield — Summer Sidewalk Sale & Street Feast

📅 August 6 - August 9 11AM - 4PM

📍 Downtown Haddonfield — Kings Highway, Tanner Street, Haddon Avenue and the side streets

Haddonfield's Sidewalk Sale has been a borough tradition since 1964, and it's still the best shopping weekend in South Jersey. Shops move merchandise out onto the sidewalks along Kings Highway and the side streets, and the Thursday kickoff — Summer Street Feast — closes Kings Highway to traffic for food trucks, live music, and stores staying open late. 

Haddon Heights — Sundown Music Series at Haddon Lake Park

📅 Wednesdays, August 12, 19 & 26 | 7:30pm

📍 McLaughlin-Norcross Memorial Dell, Haddon Lake Park

One of the better-programmed free series in the county. August brings Young Gun Silver Fox (Aug 12), Sadie Gust (Aug 19), and The Verve Pipe (Aug 26). The Dell is a natural amphitheater — get there early for a good spot on the slope.

Pennsauken — Twilight Concert Series at Cooper River Park

📅 Thursdays, August 13 & 27 | 8pm

📍 Jack Curtis Stadium, Cooper River Park

August 13 is the Paradise Island Luau, a tropical-themed night with music, dance, and family entertainment. August 27 closes out the series with the South Jersey Pops Orchestra.

Cherry Hill — Pop-Up Story Time in the Park

📅 Friday, August 14 | 10–10:30am

📍 Croft Farm, 100 Bortons Mill Road

Cherry Hill Recreation and the Cherry Hill Public Library team up for an outdoor story time at Croft Farm. All ages, no registration required, free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. Cancelled in case of rain.

Winslow — Let's Groove Tonight: Earth, Wind & Fire Tribute

📅 Saturday, August 22 | 6pm

📍 New Brooklyn Park, Winslow Township

The final show of Winslow's summer series, and a good one — a full tribute band doing the Earth, Wind & Fire catalog.

Pennsauken — Free Fitness at Cooper River Park

📅 Throughout August

📍 Vista Deck, Cooper River Park (North Park Drive & Cuthbert Blvd)

Free yoga, Zumba, and Cardio on the Cooper run all summer on the Vista Deck. Bring your own mat. Registration is required at camdencounty.com/parks.

Blackwood — Remembrance and Hope Memorial Vigil

📅 Monday, August 31 | 7:30pm, rain or shine

📍 Timber Creek Park, 236 Taylor Avenue & Chews Landing Road

The Camden County Board of Commissioners and the Addiction Awareness Task Force host this annual gathering for families and friends remembering loved ones lost to addiction. Open to the community.

Every Saturday — Collingswood Farmers Market

📅 Saturdays, 8am–noon

📍 Along the PATCO line between Collings and Irvine Avenues

August is peak season: Jersey corn, tomatoes, and peaches. South Jersey's longest-running farmers market, going since 2000, with live music and coffee under the train line. Rain or shine.

Burlington County

Westampton — Burlington County Summer Concert Series

📅 Friday & Saturday nights through August 22

📍 Burlington County Amphitheater, 5 Pioneer Boulevard, Westampton (next to the County Library)

Burlington County's free concert series is one of the best deals in South Jersey, and August is the heart of it. Opening acts start at 6pm, headliners at 7pm, and you can set up chairs and blankets starting at 4pm.

Maple Shade — National Night Out

📍 Maple Shade High School

Meet local police officers, first responders, and neighbors. Local businesses and organizations set up tables with community resources, and proceeds from the Dunk-A-Cop benefit the Maple Shade Food Bank.

Medford — National Night Out

📍 Medford Township

Medford holds its National Night Out on the first Tuesday in August alongside towns across the country. Check medfordtownship.com for location and time.

Eastampton — Zac Brown Tribute Band

📅 Saturday, August 29 | 6pm

📍 Historic Smithville Park, 803 Smithville Road, Eastampton

The Burlington County concert series closes where it opened — at Historic Smithville Park — with the premier tribute to Zac Brown Band. Smithville is worth arriving early for: the park, the historic village, and the trails around the lake are among the prettiest spots in the county.

Living in South Jersey

Here's the thing about August around here: almost none of this costs anything. Free concerts four or five nights a week, free movies, free story time, free fitness classes in the park. That's not an accident — it's what Camden and Burlington County towns invest in, and it's a big part of what people mean when they say South Jersey feels like a community rather than just a commute.
